Importing specimen archive deletes all existing specimen data? michael_stover  2011-01-17 08:56

I'm sure there's a good reason for this, but why does importing specimen data delete all previous specimen data? Why can't I import specimen data incrementally, adding new sample records to existing sample records?

Hi Michael,

We haven't yet supported incremental loading of specimens because LabKey was designed to batch sync from an external LIMS system. The LIMS data we integrate with doesn't include enough information about which records have been added/updated/deleted so we replace all records instead.

Supporting incremental updates of specimens has been on our radar for a long time and I'm looking into supporting incrementally adding new specimens and vials for the upcoming 11.1 release. I'd be curious to know more about your specimen needs -- are you interested in using LabKey as the specimen database of record? Are new specimens added manually or from some external batch process? If you like to take this off the public forum, you can email me at kevink@labkey.com.
