Hi,

Today I received an email notification about the release of LabKey v18.2 and at near the bottom of the message was a note that in v18.3, "ETL module will become a premium feature." Does this mean the existing ETL functionality will be removed from the community edition? Or will there be new ETL functionality added that will be premium only and the community edition will retain the current level of ETL functionality?

Hi Will,

Yes, there will be some significant changes here as we move onto 18.3, such as the ETL.

We're working on a FAQ, but here's some of the relevant parts that apply to your question:

Q1: Will the ETL be removed from Community Edition or will you be adding Premium Edition ETL features.

A1: The existing ETL functionality will be removed from the Community Edition in the 18.3 release.

Q2: Why are you removing the ETL module from the Community Edition?

A2: While we are committed to providing a robust Community Edition of the LabKey Server platform, we have seen an increased need to invest in the enhancement and extension of the ETL module to meet user needs. LabKey Server premium editions provide the funding necessary to support these ongoing developments, and as such, the ETL module will become a premium feature in 18.3.
