Hi Steve,

Yes, you can control this, even for the "mandatory" fields. Please try this:

Admin->Developer Tools->Schema Browser
Select the study schema
Select the SpecimenDetails query
Click Edit Metadata
Choose the field you want to hide. Uncheck the Insert and Update boxes on the "Additional Properties" tab.
Save.
