Is it possible to create messages (discussion threads) in datasets at the record level?

For lists, it is possible to allow one or multiple discussions per item (set in the list edit design).
But for datasets, we have only seen that at the end of the dataset view, there is a "DISCUSSION" link which allows submission of messages referring to the whole dataset. Is it in some way possible, to create those discussions for single records of a dataset, like it is possible in lists?

Something else:
It seems that visualization of messages in the details part of a list item does not work properly: once the discussion is hidden (or closed), hitting the "DISCUSSION" link does not allow showing it again.

Thank you very much for your great support,
Eva Pujadas

Hi Eva,

At this time, datasets do not have any integration into the announcements/messages module to allow discussion threads like you've seen for Lists for each individual record.

You could create your own script on the Participant View page by customizing it and having it create a box that will allow you to enter in discussion notes and then submit them to the announcement/message forum within the study, but considering how many potential records there are within the study, this could create a lot of messages and organization may be difficult to maintain.

And yes, the reason why it doesn't appear when it is closed is due to that specific discussion being done. If a discussion is not truly finished, it shouldn't be set to closed. If the discussion was set to closed by mistake, you can go back into the Messages web part and edit the discussion message back to Active to make it re-appear.

Jon
